Every Cloud has a Silver Lining

If you’ve lost your job, the first thing to do is step back and consider what has happened. Keep in mind that every cloud has a silver lining. While being unemployed is usually not a choice we make, this could be the perfect opportunity to find a better job or launch a new career. Don’t make any hasty decisions, however tempting it might be to jump right back into the fray.

Some questions to ask yourself include: Do you want to continue to work in the same field? Are you qualified to work in another field? Do you have skills that are transferable to a different job? Can you afford to go back to school to acquire new skills? Because the job market has become increasingly volatile, many people venture out and start their own business. What skills, hobbies, education, something you’re good at or experience do you have that could be turned into a business?

Losing your job can be traumatic and the stress it causes can be overwhelming and frustrating. The key to success is developing a plan, being proactive, and taking advantage of all the resources at your disposal.
