Reid Hoffman, co-founder of LinkedIn in his book titled “The Start-up of YOU,” presents his key message that every individual needs to think about themselves as the entrepreneur of their own life. He suggests that we all should be asking ourselves these questions: Do you invest in yourself? How do you establish good plans and strategy? How do you take intelligent risk? How do you adapt to the future?
In terms of their careers, Hoffman sees most people thinking of themselves as fitting in a job within a hierarchy, like a career ladder or escalator. He believes that the problem is the ladder and the escalator are broken. He makes the point that we all need to invest in our skills and our network.
Make sure you are connected to people outside your company. And figure out the new rules of the game.
